Alan was in 'A' Flt (armourer) but had a motor bike accident outside the guardroom and spent a few years in PMRAF Hospital and at RAF Chessington on rehab before being discharged with an artificial leg.
Since then he has spent 40 years working for W.H.Smith in the wholesale news trade, which has led him around most of the UK.
